Portuguese version

'Cultural Heritage and the Politics of Memory: Theoretical Concepts and the Case of Portugal' is a Transnational Seminar jointly organized by the University of Luxemburg and the University of Lisbon and hosted by the PhD in Anthropology granted by the University of Lisbon (DANT – Ulisboa).

Participated by students of both Universities, this Seminar seeks to develop a critical understanding of the politics of memory and related core notions such as heritage (Kulturgut, patrimoine), (post)colonialism, guilt and “working through the past” (Vergangenheitsbewältigung), heroism and identity formation. Theories as well as empirical case studies will be discussed, with a focus on representations of the colonial past in museums and monuments in Portugal.

A workshop with students of the University of Luxembourg and the University of Lisbon will be held, as well as a field trip to Lisbon, commented by scholars from the University of Lisbon.

Activity developed in the scope of the research project LEGACIES OF EMPIRE AND COLONIALISM IN COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE, of the group CITCOM.
