1.DISLOCATING EUROPE: POST-COLONIAL PERSPECTIVES IN LITERARY, ANTHROPOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL STUDIES

 

 Drawing on, and extending former, research undertaken (here) this project has now been divided into two subprojects.

1.1. VISUAL CULTURE, MIGRATION AND GLOBALISATION

Synopsis:
This project aims to carry out research on modern and contemporary art, photography and film from Africa and the African diasporas, with a particular emphasis on Portuguese-speaking African countries, considering other trans-national contexts, in the awareness of the travels of theories, texts, and images across the Black Atlantic (Gilroy), namely Brazil, and beyond, as well as internationalist alliances during the Cold War.

 

1.2. COMPARING EMPIRES: COMPARED COLONIAL ICONOGRAPHIES

Maria do Carmo Piçarra

Synopsis:
This project aims to extend and deepen the research on the iconography of the Portuguese colonial empire initiated under the project Dislocating Europe, now also considering the circulation of images in other European and non-European contexts.
