Activities:

The tasks in progress attend to four goals: (i) a register of references to the Cancioneiro Geral and its poets in literary and historiographical sources, in order to get information about the reception of 15th century poetry and to improve the knowledge of its authors, including data related to their lives and family connexions, their functions at court and abroad, the cultural and political circles in which they moved; (ii) a typology of poetic forms and genres, a rigorous classification of every text in the songbook, according to genre, structure and versification, and a metric repertoire; (iii) a characterization of the language of 16RE as a testimony of the specificities of the Portuguese language in the second half of the 15th century, including the identification of generational traits and individual peculiarities; (iv) a glossary of every unknown word which occur in the Cancioneiro Geral compositions and constitute an obstacle to the interpretation of those texts.
In addition to these tasks, essential and preliminary to the main works to be published by the end of the project, there is a collective volume with about 30 articles on fifteenth-century poetry being edited under the title “Viendo su lumbre seguí”: estudios cancioneriles (2014). Besides that, the team will also organize the 10th Colloquium of the Portuguese Section of the Asociación Hispánica de Literatura Medieval (Lisbon, March 2014) and co-organize an international conference on songbook poetry to celebrate the 500 years of the Portuguese Cancioneiro Geral (Évora, September 2016).
